Ryan Kunsman started tattooing in 2002 after a traditional apprenticeship. Ryan was taught to tattoo by Tim Claydon, who was a second generation tattooer from San Diego. His father, Buzz, taught him and his older brother to tattoo at young ages. Ryan began his apprenticeship while serving a four year term in the United States Marine Corps. Ryan’s term in the Marine Corps ended in 2003. He worked at Tattoos by Buzz Jr. for a short while longer before returning to Ohio. He worked at Graphic Nature for a few years before going on a tattoo tour, of sorts. He went to Seattle , Sacramento and down to Corpus Christi, Texas. During his time working in Corpus Christi, Ryan took an extended trip to Mexico and tattooed in a few small beach towns, including Puerto Escondito…home of the Mexican Pipeline. Ryan left Mexico and headed to California, where he lived in Long Beach and tattooed in Anaheim. He spent the winter there, but missed and returned to Texas. He worked and lived in Austin for almost two years. He returned to Ohio, shortly, and went to Erie, Pa. to help a Marine friend open a tattoo shop for a year before returning to Ohio and eventually opening Arcola Creek Tattoo with Skye, in March of 2012. Ryan likes doing full custom tattoos at any size. He prefers solid outlines, bold coloring and iconic imagery. His unique style has been developed over many states, years and influences within tattooing and other media.
